Standford Dick, pastor of Light on the Mountain Church, dies

Standford Lee Dick went home to be with his Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ, on Feb. 23 at Na-ah-tee Mountain, Arizona, where he was born Sept. 26, 1951. He and his wife of 53 years, Sandie, faithfully and humbly served God for more than 30 years.

After graduating from Intermountain Indian School in Brigham City, Utah, he trained as a mechanic in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Dick worked as a mechanic, tow truck driver and manager of Bitahochea Trading Post and Indian Wells Trading Post while farming, raising horses, cattle and sheep.

Dick knew his traditional Navajo ways, but his life changed after he became a Christian. In addition to the other churches he served as pastor, he and Sadie planted Light on the Mountain Church in a single-wide trailer in Indian Wells, Arizona, in 2018.

Dick used his spiritual gifts of teaching, evangelism and encouragement to minister to other pastors and churches. As he and Sadie shared the gospel, they distributed food, clothing, toys, cleaning supplies, etc. to church members and other churches in Dilcon, Chinle, Low Mountain, Shiprock and Gallup. He couldn’t say “no” to anyone he came in contact with who needed help — spiritual or otherwise.

Dick’s greatest impact on people was the way he lived his belief in his Savior. His favorite Scripture, John 3:16, encapsulated the gospel he believed he needed to “keep on sharing whether people responded or not” until he was called home to heaven.
