As the new associational mission strategist (AMS) for Cochise Baptist Association, Mike Stallcup gladly equates his title of AMS with “a mere servant.”
Stallcup has been described as a highly motivated, versatile and resourceful leader with excellent interpersonal communication, follow-through and organizational skills.
He served in the United States Air Force for 20 years. After retirement, he worked as a contractor and civil servant for the Army in project leadership and training.
Stallcup spent more than 40 years with the Boy Scouts of America in multiple leadership positions where he was able to see things from a realistic, worldly perspective. It has helped him to connect folks from different angles, he said.
In April 2021, he was ordained and became pastor of Palominas Southern Baptist Church in Hereford. In November 2024, he began his service as associational mission strategist.
“I love just being able to get out and be with the folks in the churches, to serve them by being around them and seeing what they need from both the laborers and the pastoral and staffers perspectives,” Stallcup said.
“My primary focus is to be of assistance and be liaison for the churches and the pastors for whatever they need,” he said. “Our focus is on empowering and resource-sharing among our members to promote missions, evangelism, leadership training and ministry support. We are dedicated to strengthening existing congregations and establishing new church works. Our state network is available to help us. I’m just the guy that gets to connect people and be there to help folks with what they need.”
He has met with all the pastors in the Cochise Association, and they have Zoom training meetings and fellowship gatherings, along with regular communication.
“It’s a real honor and a privilege to have this opportunity that God’s given us to just share Jesus with folks in this particular fashion right now,” Stallcup said. That’s something we all need to be about doing — being active and sharing Him with folks. To be the hands and feet. We need to be about the work. This is no sideline spectator sport.”
Both Stallcup and his wife, Lisa, are passionate about youth ministries. Lisa has served with the Boy Scouts of America Catalina Council in Hereford for 11 years, most recently as Cochise senior district executive. They have both been involved in youth ministries.
