Conversational Evangelism involves listening

Aug 3, 2015

cevangClose to 80 people gathered on Jan. 24 at the A.E. England Building in downtown Phoenix to learn about Conversational Evangelism.

“Our problems in evangelism are not one of methodology but one of maturity,” said David Geisler, conference leader. “We should have a greater heart for God. We need to long for the lost.”

During the four-hour seminar, Geisler spoke of how important pre-evangelism is when reaching the lost.

“If evangelism is planting seeds of the gospel, pre-evangelism is tilling the soil of their mind and heart, preparing them to be willing to listen to the truth,” he said.

Geisler used the word “Listen” to emphasize this idea:

Listen to their story
Invest time in them
Search for gaps in their beliefs
Throw light into the conversation by clarifying beliefs
Expose cracks (in their beliefs ) by surfacing uncertainty
Navigate (in our conversations with others)

“This conversational evangelism is a sharp tool for your tool belt to guide you in your faith community,” said Eddy Pearson, evangelism/discipleship facilitator for the Arizona Southern Baptist Convention.

Each person received a workbook, David and Norman’s book, Conversational Evangelism, lunch and opportunities to role play different witnessing scenarios.
