Arizonans elected to SBC trustee, committee posts

Three Arizonans were elected as members of the Executive Committee of the Southern Baptist Convention and trustees of institutions during the SBC annual meeting June 14-15 in Anaheim, California.

Luke Panter, pastor of Grace Fellowship in Maricopa, was elected to a term expiring in 2023 on the Executive Committee. He replaces Chad Garrison, lead pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, Lake Havasu City, who resigned.

Steve Hayes, a member of North Phoenix Church in Phoenix and a former International Mission Board missionary, was elected to a trustee term expiring in 2024 with the International Mission Board. He replaces Bret Burnett, who resigned.

Janet Shrader, a member of Casas Church in Tucson, was elected to a trustee term expiring in 2024 with Lifeway Christian Resources. She replaces Cheri Dempsay, who resigned.

Executive Committee members and directors/trustees of boards, institutions, commissions and standing committees of the convention are nominated by the Committee on Committees and elected by messsengers. Arizona’s two members on the 2021-2022 Committee on Nominations were Jared Nelson, a member of Mission Valley Church in Phoenix, and Rex Piper, a member of North Phoenix Baptist Church.

Prior to the annual meeting, SBC President Ed Litton appointed the Committee on Committees, which was tasked with nominating members to serve on the 2022-2023 Committee on Nominations. The two Arizonans on the Committee on Committees were Scott Gourley, senior pastor of The Way Fellowship Church in Peoria, and Ben Pate, senior pastor of Royal Palms Baptist Church in Phoenix.

The two Arizonans elected to the 2022-23 Committee on Nominations at this year’s SBC annual meeting are Andrew Marquez, executive pastor and acting interim pastor of North Swan Baptist Church in Tucson, and Ricky Aulds, a member of Mercy Hill Church in Phoenix.
