Arizonans elected to SBC trustee, committee posts

Five Arizonans were elected or reelected as trustees of Southern Baptist Convention institutions during the SBC annual meeting June 11-12 in Indianapolis. Three others were elected as members of SBC committees. These join five Arizona Southern Baptists already serving as trustees of an SBC institution.

Chris Stull, pastor of Wellspring Church in Goodyear, was elected to a trustee term expiring in 2025 with the North American Mission Board. He replaces Jackie Allen, who resigned.

Jeff Vanderford, pastor of Authentic Life Church in Tucson, was elected to a trustee term expiring in 2029 with Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He replaces Charles Wesner, who was ineligible for another term.

Steve Hayes, a member of NPHX Church in Phoenix, was elected to a second trustee term expiring in 2028 with the International Mission Board.

Daniel Martin, pastor of Tempe Christian Church in Tempe, was elected to a second trustee term expiring in 2029 with New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

Anthony Cox, pastor of Mercy Hill Church in Phoenix, was elected to a second trustee term expiring in 2028 with the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission.

Andrew Bailey, campus pastor of Cross Church in Phoenix, was elected to a term expiring in 2027 on the Committee on Order of Business.

Executive Committee members and directors/trustees of boards, institutions, commissions and standing committees of the convention are nominated by the Committee on Committees and elected by messsengers. Arizona’s two members on the 2023-2024 Committee on Nominations were Jessica Parrow, a member of Mission Valley Church in Phoenix, and Robert Bedell, a member of Sabino Road Baptist Church in Tucson.

Prior to the annual meeting, SBC President Bart Barber appointed the Committee on Committees, which was tasked with nominating members to serve on the 2023-2024 Committee on Nominations. The two Arizonans on the Committee on Committees were Chris Boggus, pastor of Happy Valley Baptist Church in Glendale, and Marti Mitchell, a member of Pinal County Cowboy Church in Casa Grande.

Elected at this year’s annual meeting to serve on the 2024-2025 Committee on Nominations were Eric Stephens, pastor of Black Mountain Baptist Church in Cave Creek, and Silvia Stanley, a member of First Baptist Church in Show Low.
