Disaster Relief
Southern Baptist Disaster Relief traces its beginnings to the actions of the Southern Baptist Convention in 1966, when the Home Mission Board authorized $50,000 for relief efforts. Prior to Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Arizona Southern Baptists had only a handful of volunteers who had worked with other states’ Baptist Disaster Relief teams. In 2006, in response to Hurricane Gustav, Arizona Disaster Relief was called on by the Disaster Operations Center at the North American Mission Board to assist in relief efforts. Today, Arizona Disaster Relief has grown to 350 volunteers who served more than 10,000 hours in 2025. Arizona Disaster Relief provides chaplain care, feeding and shower/laundry units, clean-up crews and emergency repairs. In 2025, Arizona Disaster Relief assisted in Los Angeles, California; Brownsville, Texas; Globe, Arizona; and Ruidoso and Vado, New Mexico. Arizona Disaster Relief is supported, in part, by Arizona Mission Offering funds.
