A Church Planting Journey

Nov 11, 2019

Tracy and Josh Matteson CPChurch planters Josh and Tracey Matteson are no strangers to vocational ministry. After serving in an established church for 20 years — nine of those as Senior Pastor — Josh started sensing God leading him and Tracey to step out in faith and start something new.

“A burden to see more churches get planted here in the Valley kept growing within us,” Josh says. “The need to reach out in more intentional ways [also] resonated with many in our church at that time. We had been talking about helping churches get planted for several years, but the Lord finally made clear that He was calling us to do what we had been encouraging others to do. So we took the plunge!”

In April 2017, GraceLife Church was born.

“God has been at work, and we are seeing new folks all the time,” Josh says. “Our core is committed, and we have been hard at work in seeking to do life together as we do the mission side by side.”

While the journey has not been without its challenges, the Mattesons are encouraged by the growth they’ve seen at GraceLife — and they’re grateful for the support they receive through the Cooperative Program.

From funding to accountability and training like the Leadership Pipeline, Josh says, “God has used the Cooperative Program to get our church to where it is today. We know that our giving is going toward the advancement of the kingdom and the growth of healthy churches here and around the world. We are proud to be a [North American Mission Board] Send Network church plant and a part of the Southern Baptist family here in Arizona.”

Josh and Tracey Matteson are the CP.

Because you and your church give, You are the CP.
